Delta Waterproof Bicycle Pannier Customer Reviews:
Good value; great customer service from Delta – I bought this pannier about 6 months ago and used it mostly as a backpack for the first few months. The only problem I encountered was in the way the pannier attaches to Delta’s backpack adapter. It attaches at the bottom with two snaps. That’s fine if you’re carrying a light load, but with a heavy load, the snaps would sometimes come undone as I was riding. I will probably rig up a more secure attachment system.
The first time I used the pannier as a pannier, one of the hooks that attaches it to the rack broke. I called Delta and they sent me a new pannier with a redesigned hook that seems much more robust (the new hooks have a triangular base plate).
Why a 4 out of 5? Great customer service; seems well-made and durable (with the new hook); great price. However, you might want to think twice if you intend to use it primarily as a backpack.
So far so good – This was the first pannier I had purchased and was disappointed because I thought it was over-kill that there was a lot of material to roll down before I could secure it with the velcro strap. I also thought it was over-kill that you cover up that rolled portion with the top piece (shown in the photo). This is why they will call it “double protection”. After months of sitting in my closet I was getting ready to sell it on Ebay when I decided to cut the top cover off with a pair of scissors. While it may not be as waterproof as before, it still hasn’t leaked in the times I have road with it in the rain. I just find it much more convenient this way and I use it more often now. I am glad I purchased it.
While I don’t have an opinion yet on the long-term durability of the plastic hooks, I like the way they secure to the rack. They completely encircle the metal bars so the pannier won’t bounce off.
exceeded expectations, – i live in the pacific northwest, hence, rain. so when i decided to buy panniers i did alot of research to find a brand i could depend on. Because lets face it this is something you buy only once in 10 or more years, or should anyhow. i considered Ortlieb, looked at them to see the quality, but decided on Delta. The price is much more affordable and the features are quite compatible. Especially the hood over the bag, much more like the higher end of ortlieb. Very durable ‘aquastop’ fabric as well. When i received them they exceeded my expectations. My commute to work and stores will save me a lot of gas expense, since i can ride my bike and pick up stuff with these great panniers.
Great panny on the cheap – This was the best price I could find for a waterproof pannier and I’m still using it regularly. It’s still waterproof and I love all the closures. It could be a bit easier to get on and off the bike (you have to hold the hook on the bottom while you clip it on to the rack frame) and it could be bigger when strapped closed, but overall it’s great.
