Great, – I got this item and it is perfect. It is for 2 bikes and it holds them easily. It does take some assembly but that should take only a few minutes. It really should come assembled as it would still fit in the same box and save you some trouble. But not a big deal. It is super light yet really clamps down on the bikes. Easy to install in the bad of the truck. I would suggest you get in the back and put your knee across the bar when tightening it down. It makes a huge difference in the holding power. I drove down a pretty bumpy trail to get to where we wanted to bike, and there was zero movement. The problem is the you can’t really lock the bike up. After biking we went to a playground and I was a little uncomfortable leaving the bikes in the bed of the truck with no locks. I parked where I could see the truck….. You do have to take the front wheels off the bikes to clamp them in so that is protection from people on foot. But it is something to consider.
Does Exactly What it Says – I wanted a rack for the back of my truck so I could keep my mountain bike inside when I travel. I have a Leer 180 topper which is 4 inches above cab height. My bike fits perfectly on the rack with plenty of room in the topper, I have a 26in rim. I have not tried a 29er with the topper but I do believe there will be enough room. Of course if you don’t have a topper you wont have to worry about it. Its easy to construct and install. I have a 79in. bed and there is plenty of room left with two bikes. Even with a bed rug bed liner it still can work without cutting the line. I was definitely worried about stability. However, I have tried it on everything I could short of off roading and the bikes will jostle a small bit but it stays in the same place.
Bottom line: If you want a rack for your truck bed that can be taken on and off without tools, GET THIS ONE!
Great Pickup Bed Bike Rack – This rack is easy to assemble and easy to use. It secures the bikes upright in the bed of the truck and avoids the scratching and denting that occurred when I used to lay the bikes down in the truck bed. I didn’t buy the optional locking mechanisms but instead looped a cable through the frames and front tires and padlocked the ends of the cable to the tie downs in the truck bed. I’ve long been a fan of Yakima products and own a Rack N Roll trailer, J-racks for kayaks, and a hitch bike rack from them. The customer service is great as well; I’ve talked to the tech guys in the factory and they are very helpful and follow through on any commitment that they make.
